FAQ

We've put together the most common questions about solar energy and their respective answers. If your questions is not covered below, feel free to contact one of our specialists and we'll be more than happy to help.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Systems can go from NZD5,000 for a small residential property to NZD1MM for some big commercial properties. For residential properties it's fair to say the average in 2022 was NZD10,000. For commercial properties, please visit our project examples page and you'll be able to see some numbers.

What are some good things about solar energy?

Home power generation

A small solar system is one of the easiest and most practical ways for homeowners to generate their own electricity.

Emergency power supply

Our power grid is aging. Short-term and long-term power outages are becoming more and more common. With enough solar panels, you can build your own power station with batteries.

Solar energy is abundant

Even in cold Invercargill, there is sun. The sun is not going away any time soon, as he has likely been around for over 6 billion years.

Solar powers places where the grid can't reach

In situations where you can't afford to extend power lines, solar power brings light to darkness.

Solar modules are maintenance-free

A fixed solar system has no moving parts. For new lithium-ion batteries, the only regular maintenance is keeping the fairing and battery cover clean.

Solar energy saves money

Installing solar energy reduces or eliminates your electricity bill. The higher the interest rate, the faster the money saved will add up and the payback period will be shorter. Tax credits and other incentives can also shorten the payback period.

HOW MUCH WILL I save?

Numerous factors affect how much money you can save by using solar energy on your property. Alternatively, you can continue connected to the grid with some of your energy coming from solar while going 100% solar and paying off your entire bill. You'll probably discover that your monthly payment with solar will be reduced from Day 1 and that it will eventually be eliminated completely after your system is paid off if you compare your current average power company bill with available financing options.

what's the return on investment?

Your return on investment will vary depending on how much of your energy is generated by solar energy, how much you were paying for electricity before to installing your solar energy system, and how long you want to remain in your home. The average solar energy system can last up to 25 years, but the majority of financing will pay it off in just seven, giving you 100% free energy for the rest of its useful life.

IS MY PROPERTY SUITABLE FOR SOLAR?

Although New Zealand is a fantastic location for solar energy, there are a few things to consider before installing solar panels on your home. To figure out where your solar panels can gather the most energy and how much energy your home needs and can produce with your system, you'll need a quote from an experienced solar energy installer.

DO I NEED TO CHANGE MY CURRENT PROVIDER?

The simple answer is no. If you have solar as part of your energy source, you can remain with your current provider for the remaining power need from the grid.

Will solar technology become outdated quickly?

Fair question as everything changes quickly day after day. Even though solar energy has undergone a lot of advancements in the past ten years, most of them have focused on making the same components more accessible. With today's technology, a solar energy system can last up to 25 years. And even if newer versions may come and go, you will be able to keep your house and power for as long as you like.

Do I need batteries for my solar energy system?

Most of the clients don't need batteries. Solar panels make power when they are exposed to sunlight. This means that you won't have power at night from your solar power system so if you wan't to be 100% off grid you will need batteries or a generator. However, most people work around this by connecting their systems to the utility grid, pulling power as needed.
